PSHE

PSHE Intent

At Cleves Cross, our PSHE with RSE curriculum prepares children for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. While promoting the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of children who will go on to become independent, mature, well-motivated learners who have positive attitudes and make valuable contributions, as global citizens, to our community and the wider world. Through the teaching of all subjects at Cleves Cross, children are supported to understand the importance of self-belief and perseverance.

We are proud to have achieved Level 2 Rights Respecting School Gold status. This means that we don’t have school ‘rules’ but School Charters that everyone has agreed to and that they are informed by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

We are proud to be an Educate and Celebrate best-practice school where all children are included equally in accessing our curriculum and school aims.

Children can be part of our Eco Warriors. They help our school and the local environment to follow our Eco Code to ensure we act as sustainably as possible.

PSHE education starts in our Early Years Foundation Stage through the Prime area, ‘Personal, Social and Emotional Development’. It is embedded in all that we do and prepares children to be ready for the PSHE and RSE curriculum in Key Stage One.

Alongside our wide range of PSHE opportunities that are delivered as part of our broad and balanced curriculum, we also teach PSHE and RSE explicitly using the DfE funded PSHE association scheme of work from Year 1 to Year 6. Ensuring that it contains all statutory aspects, it has been adapted to suit the needs and social context of our school.

At Cleves Cross, we aim to develop the necessary knowledge and skills in PSHE with RSE that can transfer into their future education and beyond to benefit their long-term health and wellbeing.
