The aim of Cleves Cross Primary School is to create a happy, secure and sustainable environment where children can explore, investigate, listen and discuss in order to become independent, mature and well-motivated learners who have positive attitudes and make valuable contributions, as global citizens, to their community and the wider world.
To ensure everyone has the opportunity to meet these aims, the school is committed to finding ways of listening to and supporting any young person in school who may have a caring role or responsibilities for others at home, and which they hope will ultimately improve the educational experiences and achievements of these pupils and also empower them to seek help and support when necessary. There is an understanding that many young carers shoulder responsibilities well beyond their years, and our school continues to work hard to support these pupils to become the best that they can be, despite the pressures they face.
Cleves Cross Young Carer’s Group gives the children a voice to be able to express their needs and ideas of how they can be supported. There is also a Parents Group who make a valuable contribution to the work we do. New members are always welcome.
We are the first primary school in Durham to be awarded the Young Carer’s Charter, which we are very proud of.
