We are very proud to be able to share with you that we have, for the 8th time, been awarded an Eco-Schools ‘Green flag with distinction’. The eco-schools team have given us lovely feedback. They were particularly impressed with our involvement with the tubs2pubs campaign, our litter picking events and how well the whole school got involved with ‘Earth Day’. They said: ‘You have shown as a school you are incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic about keeping our planet safe for the next generation. You are all superstars!’🌟🌍♻️

What an afternoon! ✨ Our end-of-school disco was a huge success. There was plenty of dancing, sweet treats, and a few emotional goodbyes to our amazing Year 6 class. We are going to miss them so much, but we know they all have incredibly bright futures ahead! 🌟🎓

Our end of term award ceremony was a little different again this year but we couldn’t let it pass without celebrating the pupils great successes. We held our virtual assembly within our bubbles and passed on our congratulations to our 100% attendees, citizens, handwriters, eco warriers, effort and achievers. We also held our voucher draw.

Brief details: (to include outline of personal background, life/career experiences, role on governing body/in school and reasons for becoming a school governor):
I am a life-long resident of Ferryhill and my eight-year old son attends Cleves Cross Primary. We had heard good things about the school before he attended and got a very positive feeling about the school as soon as he started. Prior to becoming a governor, I felt that I would like to try to contribute to the success of the school if possible and help to maintain and build on the good things that the school does. Not all parents want to be involved in this way, but I wanted to give something to my community, even if this was only my time. I feel that in our area it is important to raise the aspirations of children, and I have a real interest in ensuring that pupils leave school as well-rounded, polite, people with a good educational grounding and preparation for secondary education.
I had little previous knowledge of the role of a governor and it has been a steep learning curve, but I have found that being involved has helped me develop personally and has allowed me to add to my range of skills. For example, I would never in my life have thought that I would end up chairing a meeting…
Professionally, I am a cartographer and graphic designer working in the Department of Geography at Durham University with 23 years in the field. Although not part of my governing duties, I can help out the school with anything that is required design-wise and am able to calln a great deal of knowledgeable colleagues if any assistance is needed in
geographic or geological subjects. My employer is very supportive of my role as a school governor and actively encourages staff to volunteer in roles such as this.

We are very proud to be able to share with you that we have, for the 8th time, been awarded an Eco-Schools ‘Green flag with distinction’. The eco-schools team have given us lovely feedback. They were particularly impressed with our involvement with the tubs2pubs campaign, our litter picking events and how well the whole school got involved with ‘Earth Day’. They said: ‘You have shown as a school you are incredibly dedicated and enthusiastic about keeping our planet safe for the next generation. You are all superstars!’🌟🌍♻️

What an afternoon! ✨ Our end-of-school disco was a huge success. There was plenty of dancing, sweet treats, and a few emotional goodbyes to our amazing Year 6 class. We are going to miss them so much, but we know they all have incredibly bright futures ahead! 🌟🎓

PSHE Parent Consultation
Dear Parents/Carers,
As part of your child’s educational experience at Cleves Cross Primary and Nursery School, we aim to promote personal well-being and development through a comprehensively taught programme of Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive and fulfilled lives, both now and in the future.
you may already be aware, the Department for Education has announced changes to ‘Relationships and Sex’ education following nationwide consultation. These changes came into effect from September 2020 and all schools are now required to comply with updated requirements. Due to COVID19, schools have been able to delay this until the Summer Term 2021. The statutory guidance can be found at:
The new guidance focuses on healthy relationships and keeping children safe in the modern world. It also covers a wide range of topics relating to physical and mental health, well-being, safeguarding and healthy relationships.
Learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up will give children the information, skills and positive values to have safe, fulfilling relationships and help them take responsibility for their own well-being.
All of this means that we have been reviewing our ‘Relationships and Sex Education’ (RSE) curriculum and policy so we can be sure our provision is appropriate for our pupils.
As part of our review, we would appreciate your views on our draft policy for RSE.
