Geography intent
Geography education at Cleves Cross Primary School will inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, that will prepare them fully for the studies in Key Stage 3 and remain with them for the rest of their lives.
Our teaching and our wider school ethos (for example our commitment to Eco Schools, Educate and Celebrate, Rights Respecting, Fairtrade, International Schools) will equip pupils with knowledge about and an appreciation for diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments. Children will recognise the important of sustainable development for the future of mankind and the role they play as responsible citizens of the world..
Children at Cleves Cross Primary School will learn about their local area and compare their life in this area with that in other regions in the United Kingdom and in the rest of the world. The children will also learn about distant locations, linked with the topic they are studying as part of our wider Curriculum for example Sri Lanka.
Geography lessons will develop an understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes, including how these processes interact and change over time, both locally and globally. Alongside knowledge and understanding, pupils will acquire a range of geographical skills needed to collect, interpret, analyse and communicate geographical information in a variety of ways (including maps, diagrams, globes, aerial photographs, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) , numerical and quantitative skills and writing at length). Fieldwork will deepen pupils’ understanding of geographical processes.

We are very proud to be able to share with you that we have, for the 8th time, been awarded an Eco-Schools ‘Green flag with distinction’. The eco-schools team have given us lovely feedback. They were particularly impressed with our involvement with the tubs2pubs campaign, our litter picking events and how well the whole school got involved with ‘Earth Day’. As you leave primary school behind, take a moment to look back on all the memories you have made. From your first days of learning and growing, to the friendships, laughter, challenges and achievements that have shaped you, every moment has helped make you the incredible people you are today.
You have shared countless smiles, supported each other through ups and downs, and created friendships that will stay with you long after you leave these classrooms. The playground games, the funny moments, the lessons learned and the memories made will always be a special part of your journey.
Although it is time to move on to new adventures, remember the friends who walked beside you, the teachers who believed in you, and the wonderful memories you created together. Carry your kindness, courage and confidence with you as you begin the next chapter.
